The Redcar & Eston School Sport Partnership CIC offers a wide variety of services for the Children and Young people in the partnership schools. All the services aim to make a meaningful difference to the children and young people’s lives through the power of PE, sport and physical activity.
Below lists many of our services. Click on each flyer to find out the impact that is expected for each service.
Pedestrian Training
This is aimed at year 3 pupils. Each pupil will receive 3 x 45 minute training sessions to help them cross the road safely. This is an essential life skill and is particularly important at this age when they are able to start judging speed and distance.
To make a pedestrian training booking for your school please email or Active Travel Coordinator, Sharon Watkins: sharon.watkins@ressp.co.uk
Bikeability Training
This is aimed at year 4, 5 and 6 pupils. The children will be taught the national standard: Bikeability Level 1, 2 and 3. Level 1 takes 2 hours and is on the school playground. Level 2 takes 6 hours and is on minor roads. Level 3 is 2 hours and is on minor and major roads.
If your child would like to take part in the Bikeability training then please contact our Active Travel Coordinator, Sharon Watkins: sharon.watkins@ressp.co.uk
Balance Bike Training
This is aimed at children in Reception. Each child received 3 x 30 minute lessons. The lessons are progressive and fun. By the end of the sessions each child should feel confident and be competent to ride and glide on a balance bike. This is their first introduction to riding a bike. Creating healthy habits for the future.
If your child would like to take part in the Balance Bike training then please contact our Active Travel Coordinator, Sharon Watkins: sharon.watkins@ressp.co.uk
Sports Leaders Training
Sports Leadership is offered to children in Key stages 2, 3 and 4. The sports leadership training helps to develop character, social skills and employability skills within the Sports Leaders. The Leaders are trained and deployed to run activities for their peers and younger children. This is often done within playtime settings in primary schools and at festivals and competitions as they progress through the leadership pathway. Sports Leaders are invaluable to increasing the physical activity levels of other children.
If you have any questions about our leadership offer then please contact Louise Tarran: louise.tarran@ressp.co.uk
Team Teaching
The aim of our Team Teach service is to increase the competence and confidence of the teaching staff whilst delivering physical education to their own class. The team teach sessions are usually booked in blocks of three. SSP staff will deliver the lesson and explain to the teacher what they are doing and why. The teacher MUST be present at ALL times and get involved in the lesson. This is a CPD opportunity for the teacher. High quality PE is essential for developing the children and young people’s physical literacy skills. They need to develop the Competence, confidence, Motivation and have the Knowledge and Understanding of why they are doing something and how they can improve. Physical Education is an active lesson and it should be engaging, but first and foremost the children should be learning and show progression. Bookings for the team teach are usually made through the PE subject leader but if anyone would like to contact us directly then please email: info@ressp.co.uk
Development Days
The aim of our Development days is for children to experience a sports event outside of school. The main focus is to learn new skills and enjoy the experience. We link all of our development days to the PE national curriculum and cater for large groups of children. We also hope the days give staff new ideas to take back to school. Sometimes we have an element of age appropriate competition at the Development Day but this is not the main aim. If anyone would like to contact us directly about the development days then please email: louise.tarran@ressp.co.uk
Festivals
The partnership festivals are fun events that engage younger children in physical activity and aim to give them a positive experience outside of school. A festival is the first step on the ladder of working with other schools at a large scale event.
If anyone would like to contact us directly about our festivals then please email: louise.tarran@ressp.co.uk
Competitions
Inter sports competitions (schools competing against each other), will always be popular with schools. However, competitions can put children off sport and physical activity if the level of the competition does not meet the child’s motivation, confidence and competence levels. Therefore at all of our competitions, schools will be sent information about our intentions for the competition, who it is aimed at and what it will involve. School staff will need to make appropriate selections of children and young people for each competition. Often we have two levels within the same competition: ‘Competitive’ and ‘Development’, once again the school staff will need to select the right children for each level of the competition so that the children continue to have a positive experience in physical activity and sport. If anyone would like to contact us directly about our competitions then please email: louise.tarran@ressp.co.uk
Daily Physical Activity Ideas
We live in a world where we can spend all day not moving. Physical activity is essential for child development. It helps the brain to grow, helps it connect more neurons, helping children to concentrate and focus. Children taking part in regular physical activity are less likely to develop long term health conditions. The Chief Medical Officer recommends children aged 5-18years to take partin 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day. It is our mission to encourage schools to provide more opportunities for children to be active throughout the school day. In partnership with Tees Valley Sport and other Tees Valley Sports Partnerships we have created an ideas bank. Click here to access these ideas bank. The interactive booklet has lots of links to click for further information. If anyone would like to contact us directly about our daily physical activity ideas then please email: info@ressp.co.uk
